  • Words of a Type at the DIA Gallery

Poster printing has changed throughout the years with the advent of more mechanized techniques. In the early days, posters were hand printed and were primarily used to announce upcoming events, to advertize a product or to educate the public on the news of the day. Today we view posters as both an advertizing medium and as a work of art. The change towards viewing posters as a work of art was helped immensely by the striking posters of the Moulin Rouge created by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in the late 19th century.
